How to Build a Death Star – A Project Manager’s Perspective
OVERVIEW
How we procure and deliver projects is fascinating! Imagine you are the PM for the power core at the centre of the Death Star. No imagination needed. This project is happening here on Earth right now. A little less spectacularly called ITER – International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor. What can we learn from this project and the decisions made around its delivery. How indeed do you build a death star?
TAKEAWAYS
- What is different about complex projects and how they are managed?
- How does a project’s elements shape project management, from funding and expertise to IP and incentives?
- Why is the ITER project embracing collaboration?
Kiri combines real life experience delivering mega projects with leading research into project delivery to challenge how we design risk, governance and procurement strategies. An active speaker, researcher and independent consultant, Kiri brings new perspectives and tools to the problems before us.
SPEAKER
Kiri Parr is passionate about the intricacies of how we procure and deliver projects. Positioned at the crossroads of construction law, procurement strategy, risk management, human behaviour, and governance models, she brings a unique perspective that identifies patterns and interactions others might overlook. As a frequent speaker and writer on procurement, she challenges conventional thinking about project delivery and demonstrates just how compelling this field can be. Kiri thrives on collaborating with clients who are eager to explore the possibilities within their projects.

Her technical expertise as a construction lawyer includes 10 years in private legal practice and 15 years as General Counsel for a large international consulting company.
