Your Candidate Pitch: Building Your Candidacy Statement | Career Club

Power Skills

OVERVIEW

In this online session, Mark Healy will guide Early to mid-career professionals through how to build a candidacy message tailored for job applications and recruitment scenarios. You’ll learn how to present yourself not just as another applicant, but as a differentiated candidate. We’ll cover how to assess the marketplace (which sectors / roles to target), choose the kinds of companies (small to medium vs large) for early gains, and avoid mistakes that can hurt your brand long term. Through real-world scenarios and actionable frameworks, you’ll leave ready to pitch yourself with clarity, confidence and competitive edge.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Candidate differentiation strategy — how to position yourself uniquely compared to peers with similar experience.
  • Sector and role targeting — how to choose which industries, organizations, and roles to aim for early in your career.
  • Small / medium vs large organizations — benefits and trade-offs, and why small/medium can accelerate your growth.
  • Market approach methods — direct outreach, networking, target applications, leveraging meetups and professional groups.
  • Pitfalls that damage your brand — how poor applications, overreaching, or inconsistency can hurt your chances in the market.
