Successfully implementing sustainable outcomes in infrastructure projects | October Chapter Event
This is a joint event between the Engineers Australia College of Leadership and Management and Sustainable Engineering Society, and the Project Management Institute of Queensland.
Overview
Sustainability encompasses performance across the full triple bottom line, it is frequently misinterpreted as solely focusing on environmental concerns and perceived as excessively costly. However, it is crucial to approach sustainability as a multifaceted initiative that involves early planning and collaboration among various stakeholders.
By establishing sustainability plans from the outset, significant cost savings can be achieved. The Infrastructure Sustainability Council has developed a comprehensive rating system that spans the entire project lifecycle, from planning to operation. This system has been proven effective in achieving sustainability objectives across a broad range of areas. The event will consist of a 1-hour presentation by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council, focusing on:
- A case study showcasing the successful implementation of their Infrastructure Sustainability (IS) rating
- Steps involved in attaining the IS rating, and common challenges project face when striving for this recognition
- Insights and strategies on how projects can effectively overcome challenges.
Takeaways / Lessons
- Successful projects that have utilized it and identifying ways to optimise its implementation.
- Strategies, tools, and methods for effectively implementing the IS Rating at different scales, from individual assets to portfolios and regions.
- Gain insights on what the IS rating is, the benefits of IS rating and the process involved in achieving it.
