Overview

"Project management is all about breaking new ground—doing things that have never been done before. This places innovation right at the heart of what we do as project managers. In fact, innovation has become a core competency, essential to success in a rapidly shifting strategic environment." - Galagher, S. (2015)

Innovation can be described as the process of creating something new or improving something existing, which leads to new or positive value creation. Innovation is a mindset that can be taught and developed over time, with the right tools and practices.

In traditional project management models, the focus for project managers have been primarily on the achievement of a result. However, modern project management models identified a need for project managers to do more than managing the scope and deliverables. It requires them to be part tactician and part strategist with problem solving. Innovation not only improves execution and operations, it centralises problem solving hence why it is recognized as a core competency skill for project managers.

For the last chapter event of the year, PMIQ is bringing you Rene Plamenac, the National Innovation Lead for BDO Australia. Learn from Rene on how project managers can utilise right tools and harvest inner innovation, leverage an innovative mindset and capitalise on internal delivery. Rene will be sharing a case study of innovation with Dr Conan Wang, The UQ Ignite showcase; a BDO collaboration with IMB (UQ).

Following the presentation is the PMIQ Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2022.
