November Chapter Event: The Must Have Soft and Hard Skills for Project Managers of the Future

Workshop | Panel Discussion | AGM

What:

Workshop

Facilitated by Chris Wilderboer -- the Exceed Your Targets Workshop will enhance communication, leadership and collaboration through everyone understanding their own motivations, strengths and who else they need around them to get the job done.

Panel Discussion

The panel discussion will provide up to date thinking on which “hard” skills PM’s should look to equip themselves with to remain competitive in the future PM market.

AGM

The AGM is a legal requirement of PMIQ as a registered association in Qld. It will announce the 2018 Election results, provide an annual report for PMIQ from 2017/18, and allow members to input to the governance of their association.

Who/Our Panel:

Ryan Darby – Qld State Manager at Project Sensei

Ryan is the State Manager for Sensei in Queensland. Ryan has spent the last decade helping organisations be more efficient in how they work to achieve their organisational goals, through implementing project and portfolio management solutions. These range from Project Online, workflow, Power BI and Planer. A pragmatic approach has been taken, as Ryan has used his prior experience as a PMO Manager and Project Manager to ensure that the tools actually support the processes. Ryan has a PMP, Masters in Project Management and Masters in Computer Science and Microsoft certification in Project Online. In his spare time he flies light aircraft and collects military medals

Chris Wildeboer – Project Manager

Chris began her working life in administration in an Engineering firm and then moved into the IT Industry.  This is where Chris first experienced the unique characters that make up a Project Team.  After 10 years in the IT industry working across all aspects of Admin, Projects and Quality Management Chris found her self – well her position – redundant.
This was the catalyst for the creation of her business Balance Central in 2009.  In the first few years, Balance Central offered one-on-one sessions and grew rapidly through word-of-mouth referrals. Chris is now an Entrepreneur, an award winner, an Author and a Professional Speaker. Chris loves to work with managers to identify the outcomes they want their team to achieve.  She gives them what they want and then also facilitates what they need – which allows the team to be more focused and committed which ultimately leads to exceeding expectations.

Dr Bronte Van Der Hoorne – USQ Academic

Dr Bronte van der Hoorn has worked in the private and public sectors in project and change management roles. As a researcher at the University of Southern Queensland she explores the ‘lived experience’ of project work and is keen to identify and develop new tools to assist project managers to deal with the realities of project work. Her work is published in various scholarly journals and she also presents her research both within Australia and abroad.

Richard Willis – Project Manager

Richard is an experienced and skilled business executive with a background in a wide range of technical industries.  He has a range of roles; including Royal Australian Air Force, Directorships, senior executive, business owner, consultant and trainer.  His experience allows him to have a unique perspective and therefore can tie together marketing, sales, finance, production, operations and project management at all levels within an organisation. Recent interesting project management engagements have included Solomon Island Government, Government of the Republic of Nauru, Downer Group in Australia and New Zealand and Logan City Council. Unusual or interesting projects have included, manufacturing hundreds of fibreglass life-sized cows, physically measuring and cataloguing all the paper files for Suncorp in the Brisbane CBD, Company mergers, refurbishing historically significant buildings (including replacing bullet holes in timbers!), and software for networking events to ensure you always sat with someone different at each meeting! Current engagements include developing a business web portal, and a project governance PMO framework, including policies, procedures and templates using a BMPN model with hyperlinks to the various tools and templates for the staff to use.
