“Our job,” says Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, “Is to invent new options that nobody has ever thought of before and see if customers like them.”
“Our customers are loyal to us right up until the second somebody offers them a better service,” CEO Bezos says. “And I love that. it’s super-motivating for us.” Over 22 years, Amazon has moved into one sector after another and gentrified it, even if that meant tearing down its own existing structures. Unlike Apple, Google, and Microsoft, Amazon is not fixated on a tightly designed ecosystem of interlocking apps and services. Amazon emphasizes platforms that each serves its own customers in the best and fastest possible way.
Join us on 28th May to learn how Amazon, starting out as a niche service selling books online, is now not only a dominant retailer, but has pioneered new categories such as cloud computing and smart speakers. The key to its success is not any one process, but how it integrates its customer obsession deep within its culture and practice. Through the evening, David Freeman and Gavin Douglas will describe how Amazon use this mental model and mechanisms to help innovate. They will touch on the Digital Innovation Program by Amazon. The team will discuss how Amazon organizes for innovation with its mechanisms, architecture, culture, and organization.
1. Starting With the Customer and Working Back
2. A Deeply Embedded Writing Culture
3. Reinventing The Office Meeting
4. Coevolving Culture And Practice
And above all, how Amazon innovates and innovates well!
David Freeman has worked in a broad range of delivery and management roles from technical to strategy in both Australia and the UK for more than 15 years. Working for Amazon has given him the opportunity to take the learnings and apply them to help and challenge customers to think more about their business and less about technology and bring the resources of a global organisation and leader in to assist.
Gavin Douglas has worked with a wide variety of clients and business partners building relationships at multiple levels from IT staff to C-level executives. Gavin has a passion for creative problem solving, challenging, coaching and exploring new opportunities. Gavin’s approach is simple – lead the team, think holistically, take a long-term approach to business relationships and always act with integrity.
